Why should I worry about sharing my children's photos online?

Once a photo is on a public platform, you no longer control it — it can be copied, saved, and re-shared long after you post it. UK research found that 45% of parents share images or details about their children, and 1 in 6 reported a negative incident affecting their child, from privacy breaches to identity crime and contact from strangers. Details like a birthday, school, or location in a caption can also help strangers identify or find a child.

Aren't AI deepfakes only a risk for celebrities?

No. Ordinary photos are increasingly scraped to fabricate fake explicit images. Reports to the U.S. National Center for Missing & Exploited Children involving generative AI rose 1,325% in 2024, and around 1 in 10 minors already know of peers using AI to create nude images of other children. Keeping photos out of public, scrapeable feeds is one of the simplest ways to reduce this risk.

Isn't a private account on social media enough?

A private account limits who sees a post, but anyone who can see it can still screenshot, download, or forward it — and once a copy leaves the app, its privacy settings no longer apply. A small follower count is not protection either. Maple Album keeps your media end-to-end encrypted and adds screenshot and screen-recording protection, so shared moments are far harder to copy or leak. It's also more resilient to hacking than traditional social media: because your photos and videos are encrypted on your device and we never hold the keys, a breach of our servers can't expose your memories the way a breach of a conventional platform would.

What data can leak if Maple Album's servers are hacked?

Your photos and videos can't. They are end-to-end encrypted on your device before upload, and the keys that unlock them never leave your family's devices — so even if an attacker copied everything on our servers, the media would remain unreadable encrypted data. On a traditional platform, the same breach would hand over viewable photos and videos directly. What an attacker could see is limited account information needed to run the service, such as the email address you signed up with and the encrypted structure of your albums, not the memories inside them.

Who can see my album content?

Album content is intended for invited members of that album. Review member details before approving invitations or sharing access.

Can Maple Album see my photos and videos?

No. Your media is end-to-end encrypted on your device before it is uploaded, and the keys stay with your family. Maple Album stores only encrypted data, so not even our team can open or view your memories. The single exception is when a member reports an item for abuse — see below.

What happens when I report something?

Only a member who already has access to an item can report it. Reporting shares the key to that one specific item with our team so we can review it — it can't unlock any other photo, video, or album. Once the report has been reviewed, the media and its key are securely discarded. This lets us act on genuinely harmful content without ever holding the keys to everyone's memories.

Does Maple Album protect against screenshots?

Maple Album guards shared media against screenshots and screen recording to make it harder to copy content out of an album. No app can make screenshots completely impossible on every device, so only invite people you trust and share content thoughtfully.
